What to Expect On Your First Visit

I believe you will find my office space warm and welcoming. It is a converted one-bedroom apartment and has a home-like feel. You will be offered coffee, tea or water. You will be asked to complete and sign initial paperwork required for you to be seen. (You may click on the links below to obtain some of the forms in advance.) This includes:

Client Data Form;

Therapy Contract;

HIPAA Privacy Form;

Questionnaire(s) to evaluate mood /thoughts/feelings;

Informed Consent for Participation in Online/Distance Treatment and/or Contact;

Office Access and Parking;

Payment Agreement (only if sliding scale fee adjustment being used)

This paperwork takes 10-15 minutes to complete.

You will notice that there are many therapeutic tools and stuffed animals in the office. I believe in the comfort of play and the safety in objects. As adults, we tend to hinder ourselves from using these items as coping mechanisms, the way we did in childhood. Feel free to hold or play with the items during our session(s).

Our session(s) will last 60 minutes. The first session will be a time for us to discuss what brings you into therapy, and for me to begin to get to know you. This assessment process will likely continue for 2-3 sessions. We will discuss your goals of our work together. I will take some notes during our time together to help me remember details of your life. You are welcome to see what I am writing down.

This first session is also a time for you to evaluate if you feel that we would work well together. You can feel free to ask me questions at any time. If you are comfortable at the end of the session, we will schedule another appointment(s).

Paying for Therapy

Payment is expected at time of service, and I will process this before we begin our session.

While I do accept a limited number of insurances, most of my clients are private pay. In recognition of the expense of therapy, I have three options available to assist you in your ability to pay for your sessions. I offer:

Receipts for service, which you can submit to your insurance company if you have a benefit for out-of-network provider reimbursement;

No-interest charged payment plans;

A sliding scale fee adjustment may be offered after review of the first page of your most recent 1040 tax form to see if you meet income eligibility.
